6th oct - Best Performing Section

We knew flute will be rather unhappy about the results, so we will be giving our explanation. ^^

F.Y.I:
** Best Performing Section of the practice is determined "purely" by the conductor. **

----

Before giving the explanation,

let me list out the CRITERIA for having the BEST PERFORMING SECTION of the practice.

1. Playing - Technical Ability
2. Playing - Intonation
3. Playing - Dynamics
4. Playing - Section blending and togetherness (Co-operaion with each other)
5. Improvement in playing
6. Attendance

---------------------------------

1. Improvement (euphonium)

Euphonium has improved since the last pract or even the the pract before last week. They blended rather well with the band yesterday with minimal intonation problem (not saying that they have none but MINIMAL). Even playing techhnique, the euphonium section has improved.

2. Intonation (flute)

I think this segment, flute section should know themselves that their intonation aren't that good for yesterday practice as compared to other weeks.

3. "Swelling" Playing (euphonium)

Just to correct this point, they have a crescendo and decrescendo (< >) for some parts of the score , thus it is not swelling.

---------------------------------

Our main Aim for having this Best Performing Section of the practice award is to hope that everyone in the section will practice and work together. We hope everyone can improve through this. We also hope to encourage and compliment those sections that has shown big improvement.

--------------------------------

Personally, I think yesterday pract was the first time after so long, I felt that flute is not the Best Performing Section.

Usually, when flute has the Best Performing Section, they really played well with good and minimal intonation problem. I guess everyone will agree that the flute really played well for that particular practice.

For yesterday practice, I did not feel so, I thought Trombone played well, Clarinet too (FOR ONCE, athough with alot of wrong notes in other pieces except for Orion). I guess some people will think trombone or others played well too and not purely flute.

Euphonium section might be abit unexpected but when you all listen to Eupho when Mr Chiang single them out, don't you think they have improved (although it is abit loud)? I do think they have.

Flute on the other hand, DID NOT play well yesterday. Flute section should know very well that, you all did not play well. Firstly about intonation, I guess all the flautists can hear it. You all have rather lot of intonation problems (the most obvious one being - hymn - especially the Beginning and Slow parts). For all the songs we played yesterday, flute section made alot of intonation problems, so far it was flute worst intonation session. I guess Flute section you all know this yourself.

Lastly, I think it is good to have competitor right? ^^
There is nothing in this world that can last forever.

If you want to get it, you will need to work hard. If you want to sustain it, you will need to do even better than the last one.

---------------------------------------

we should be happy for that particular section that has gotten the Best Performing Section, we are a band! No matter who wins it, it will be good for all of us! ^^

So everyone! Work hard and play well!

Euphonium work harder to SUSTAIN this Best Performing Section of the practice. It is hard to sustain and you may need to improve EVEN MORE! BEN YAP!! DON'T SLACK AR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^
